I thought I'd like this one but I was disappointed. I can't even really tell you why I didn't like it... It was essentially a mockerie of world war 2. All the humor was just not my type etc...
Had Tarantino lost it? Many asked themselves that after watching Death Proof - a movie I liked very much, altough its bad reviews. And after watching Inglourious Basterds one thing has become certain for me: he didn't fucking lost his talent. Inglourious Basterds is one of Tarantino's best movies.
It's a movie about the Second World War. A sensitive theme, with a lot of taboos. Could Tarantino make one of his movies in this setting without offending anyone? The movie switches fast between fun scenes and really disturbing scenes. Children die and so do women. That's sometimes hard to swallow because a few moments before you've been laughing at a conversation those people had. It's cruel, it's harsh, but so was WW2.
