Another of my all-time favourites. Jack Nicholson is fantastic as the un-hinged caretaker of a derelict hotel who slowly begins to go mad as he spends more time alone with his family in the mountain-top hotel. A movie that actually manages to be scary, even over twenty years later.
Truly excellent movie about the disintegration of a family stuck out in a big hotel for the winter. It is nothing like the King book on which it is based, but is totally worth watching. Go see Kubrick's perception of the American nuclear family.
